Rifle@oregonstate.edu or Sign Up About the Oregon State University Rifle ClubThe Oregon State University Rifle Club was founded in 1944 with the purpose of encouraging organized recreational and competitive rifle shooting among the members of the Oregon State University community. Sine then, we have been dedicated to accomplishing this through teaching the members of the Oregon State University community about precision shooting, marksmanship, and the safe handling and the proper care of firearms. The rifle shooting environment is one of safety, fun, and learning and is open to all experience levels! Hands on training is available and provided to those who do not have prior experience with rifles, or who wish to expand their knowledge. The Oregon State Rifle Club is open to all members of Dixon Recreation Center and is recognized by the Civilian Marksmanship Program and the National Rifle Association.
To join rifle club you must come to and complete a safety training class and then pay club dues. All members--new and returning--must complete the safety training class before they are allowed to shoot on the range. The safety training is $5 and includes one box of ammunition. Safety Training is held in the Classroom at McAlexander Fieldhouse and is only given Monday nights starting at 6pm and last about an hour. The training covers range rules, safe handling of rifles, safe transportation of rifles, range commands, and competitive shooting positions. After the safety training all club members are welcome to shoot, and are encouraged to ask any questions they might have. Our coaches and officers are always more than happy to answer questions and help shooters improve. Club practice times are Mondays from 6pm-8pm and Wednesdays 6pm to 7pm during Fall, Winter and Spring terms. There are no club practices during winter break, spring break, or summer sessions. The Oregon State Rifle Team does hold separate practices outside of club practices for team members only. If you are interested in joining the rifle team, please talk to or email to the head coach. The Oregon State Rifle Club maintains a Varsity Rifle Team throughout the academic year that is open to all rifle team members. The Varsity Rifle Team competes in the Willamette Valley Smallbore League from January to May, in the Oregon State Smallbore Championships in April, as well as the Oregon State Air Rifle Championships in January. In February, the club hosts an NRA Intercollegiate Rifle Sectionals for all interested undergraduate students. For this match the club maintains two teams: the Collegiate Rifle Team and the ROTC Rifle Team. Both teams are open to all undergraduate students who are on the rifle team, with the ROTC team also requiring current enrollment in a Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program at Oregon State University.
