Congratulations!

The 2015 season was another successful year for the Oregon State University Rifle Team!  Some highlights: the team took second in the Willamette Valley Smallbore League and our head coach, Trent Hering, was once again named the Oregon Smallbore State Champion!

The Oregon State Rifle Club is open to anyone who has a current membership to Dixon Recreation Center. Membership to the team, however, is limited to those who demonstrate knowledge, marksmanship, and a commitment to precision shooting. Because of this the Head Coach selects the members of the team from those who best demonstrate and practice the above qualities. In order to develop and maintain nationally qualifying and competitive teams, the team has separate practices from the club. Both new and experienced shooters are encouraged to try out for the team year round. If you are interested in joining the rifle team, please talk to or email to the head coach.  The team practices Mondays from 8pm-9pm and Wednesdays from 7pm-9pm, these practices are only open to rifle team members.

The Oregon State Rifle Team competes in a variety of matches through the Willamette Valley, the state of Oregon, and the country. Most of the matches the team shoots in are part of the Willamette Valley Smallbore League, although the team also completes in the Oregon State Smallbore Championships, the Oregon State Air Rifle State Championships, the NRA Intercollegiate Sectionals, and the NRA Intercollegiate Rifle Club Championships. Participation in all of these matches--except the NRA Intercollegiate Rifle Club Championships--is open to all rifle team members. Participation in the NRA Intercollegiate Rifle Club Championships is by invitation from the NRA only.

The Oregon State Rifle Club maintains a Varsity Rifle Team throughout the academic year that is open to all rifle team members. The Varsity Rifle Team competes in the Willamette Valley Smallbore League from January to May, in the Oregon State Smallbore Championships in April, as well as the Oregon State Air Rifle Championships in January. In February, the club hosts an NRA Intercollegiate Rifle Sectionals for all interested undergraduate students. For this match the club maintains two teams: the Collegiate Rifle Team and the ROTC Rifle Team. Both teams are open to all undergraduate students who are on the rifle team, with the ROTC team also requiring current enrollment in a Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program at Oregon State University. These two teams compete in the NRA Intercollegiate Rifle Sectionals in order to earn invitations to the NRA Intercollegiate Rifle Club Championships at Fort Benning, Georgia (held in March) and are coached by the Rifle Club Head Coach.
